The cat is willing to share her mat with a variety of other animals who come along, but even the most generous cat has limits. A playfully illustrated series of pages featuring bold pictures, repetitive text and a good sense of humour.

This is the first book in Wildsmith's Cat on the Mat series, which feature little or no text  encouraging children to begin their reading journey. You can find The Apple Bird, a title from the same series in our children's book section.

Brian Wildsmith was born in 1930. After National Service teaching at the Royal Military School of Music, he decided to devote his time to painting. He was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal for illustration in 1962 and has written and illustrated more than eighty books for children. The Wildsmith Museum was opened in Japan in 1994 to showcase his paintings.
